BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College softball team picked up a split in a doubleheader against Southern Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats dropped game one by the score of 5-3, but they rebounded to win game two, 6-3. With the results Saturday, LMC's record to 13-25 overall and 5-9 in conference play.
Game 1 Recap: In the first game of the day, the difference proved to be a three-run fifth inning put together by the Warriors as they went on to win, 5-3. LMC actually out-hit SWU in the contest, 10-8.
Leading the way offensively for the Bobcats was Caitlyn Ray who went a perfect 3-for-3 with a pair of solo home runs. The long balls were the first home runs of Ray's career. Additionally, eight of the nine members of LMC's starting lineup had at least one hit.
In the circle, Charlie Dutton struck out a season-high eight hitters but took the loss. Dutton's loss moved to 2-9 with the defeat. Dutton pitched a total of four-and-two-third innings allowing four runs on five hits in her outing.
Game 2 Recap: With the score 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Kirsten Doss launched a two-run home run to seal the 6-3 win for the Bobcats. It marked the first home run for Doss in her career as a Bobcat.
Doss went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Several other players had standout performances at the plate as four other Bobcats had multi-hit games. The No. 1, 2, 3 and 9 hitters in LMC's order went a combined 8-for-15 in the contest.
Senior Taylor Billings picked up her second win of the season improving her record to 2-5. Billings held SWU's offense in check over four-and-one-third innings of work as she allowed just one earned run on six hits.
Next Up: The Bobcats will return to action Tuesday when they host King (TN) University in a twin bill. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
