BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College softball team will close out its regular season Saturday when it heads to North Greenville for a Conference Carolinas doubleheader. The games, which were originally to be played in Banner Elk but were moved due to weather, are scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m.
Last Time Out – Lees-McRae dropped a pair of games to King (TN) on April 11 by scores of 6-1 and 8-0. With the results against King, the Bobcats are now 14-30 overall and 6-14 in conference play.
Postseason Hopes – LMC currently holds the eighth and final spot in the upcoming Conference Carolinas tournament. If Lees-McRae is able to seal its spot this weekend, it would be the first postseason appearance for the squad since 2014.
Moving up the conference ladder – If the Bobcats can win at least one of the two games Saturday, they will have surpassed their conference win total from last season (6). The seven victories against Conference Carolinas foes would bet the most for the program since 2011.
Player to Watch – A player to watch for LMC Saturday is Emily Merriam. Merriam has played her best on the road this season as the sophomore from Myrtle Beach, S.C. is hitting a team-high .359 with one home run and nine RBI in 25 games on road in 2017.
Series Rewind – The Bobcats will look to end a four-game losing streak against the Crusaders when the two teams face off Saturday. LMC's last win over NGU came in 2014 when the two teams matched up in the conference tournament where the Bobcats won by a 4-3 final score.
