BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College softball team will travel to Burlington, N.C. this weekend to compete in the Conference Carolinas softball tournament. The Bobcats, who drew the No. 8 seed, will take on top-seeded Pfeiffer to open play in the tournament Friday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
Last Time Out – LMC dropped a pair of games to North Greenville last Saturday by scores of 3-0 and 12-4. The losses moved Lees-McRae's record to 14-32 overall and 6-16 in conference action.
Back in the Postseason – After a two year absence, the Bobcats will make their return to postseason play Friday afternoon. In the team's last appearance in the conference tournament, which was in 2014, LMC went 1-2 after knocking off North Greenville but it also dropped a pair of games to Limestone.
Playing in front – A major key for the Bobcats this weekend will be getting an early lead. When Lees-McRae scores first, it holds a record of 11-4. In comparison when their opponents get on the board first, the Bobcats are 3-28.
Player to Watch – A player to watch for LMC this weekend is sophomore catcher Noel Cassidy. Cassidy is hitting .452 in the team's last 10 games. The Myrtle Beach, S.C. native not only leads the team in batting average over the last 10 contests but she also paces the squad in slugging percentage (.548) and on-base percentage (.469).
Series Rewind – Pfeiffer won both games between the two teams when the two squads matched up earlier this season in Banner Elk. The Falcons edged LMC 2-1 in game one before knocking off the Bobcats 8-3 to complete the sweep.
