ANDERSON, S.C. – The Lees-McRae College softball team split a pair of games in Anderson, S.C. Tuesday afternoon. LMC picked up its first win of 2018 in game one defeating Anderson (S.C.) University by a score of 1-0. Anderson, however, knocked off the Bobcats, 5-4, in game two. With the results Tuesday, Lees-McRae's record moves to 1-5 on the season.
Game 1 Recap – The first contest Tuesday was a pitchers' duel. The lone run came in the top of the second inning when Sarah Beth Thomas drew a bases loaded walk to force in the first and only run of the contest. The one run proved to be enough for junior Kara Cunningham as she was able to keep the Trojan offense off balance for the entirety of game one. Cunningham struck out seven and allowed no runs to Anderson. The victory improved Cunningham's record to 1-2 on the season.
In addition to her work from the circle, Cunningham also accounted for two of the team's four hits in game one with one of those base knocks being a double. Katie Robinson and Thomas posted the other two hits for Lees-McRae.
Game 2 Recap – The second contest of the day had a lot more offense than the previous game. LMC totaled a season-high seven hits in game two and mounted a rally to get within one run of the Trojans in the seventh inning but ended up falling just short, 5-4.
Caitlyn Ray and Sarah Tucker led the way with a pair of hits for the Bobcat hitters. Cassidy Largen took the loss in the circle after allowing five runs (two earned) in three innings of work. Largen's record dips to 0-2 with the defeat.
Next Up – The Bobcats will be back in action Saturday for another non-conference double dip at Lander. First pitch between the Bearcats and Bobcats is scheduled for 2 p.m.
