GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Lees-McRae College softball team dropped a pair of games on the road at Lander Saturday afternoon by scores of 4-3 in 10 innings and 8-0 in six innings. With the results Saturday, LMC's record stands at 1-7 on the season.
Game 1 Recap – The first game of the day was a very competitive one. Lander opened the scoring in the bottom half of the first with a pair of runs. LMC would get within one with a sacrifice fly in the second and then tie the score at 2-2 with a solo home run from Kirsten Doss. The Bearcats pulled back in front in the bottom of the fourth, and the Bobcats answered with a run in following half inning. Lees-McRae and Lander would then play five more innings to decide a winner. Lander scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th to walk-off the Bobcats, 4-3.
LMC did match a season-high with seven hits in game one. Kara Cunningham went 2-for-5 to pace LMC. As mentioned earlier, Doss hit her first home run of the spring in game one. Caitlyn Ray, Sarah Tucker, Chelsea Digregorio and Noel Cassidy also contributed to LMC's hit totals in the contest.
Cunningham proved to be the tough luck losing pitcher in game one. She pitched nine-and-two-thirds innings on the day, allowed four runs with only one being earned to go along with eight strikeouts.
Game 2 Recap – The back end of Saturday's doubleheader was quite a bit different than the front end was. Lander scored eight runs on 11 hits and were helped by four errors by the Bobcats to finish off the doubleheader sweep, 8-0.
LMC starter Cassidy Largen was saddled with the loss after allowing 11 hits, eight runs (two earned) in five-and-one third innings of work. Largen's record moves to 0-4 with the loss.
Next Up – The Bobcats will be back in action Sunday when it takes on USC Aiken in a twin bill. First pitch for Sunday's doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
