AIKEN, S.C. – The Lees-McRae College softball team earned a split on the road at USC Aiken Sunday afternoon. LMC won the first game by a score of 6-5 before falling to the Pacers in the second contest of the day, 10-6. With the results Sunday, Lees-McRae's record stands at 2-8 on the season.
Game 1 Recap – Lees-McRae jumped out to an early lead on USC Aiken thanks in part to a pair of home runs from Sarah Beth Thomas and Noel Cassidy. For Thomas it was her first career collegiate home run. Thanks to the long balls from Thomas and Cassidy, the Bobcats held a 4-0 lead on the Pacers. USC Aiken, however, battled back to tie the score at four at the end of six innings.
LMC regained its lead in the top of the seventh thanks to three hits and a pair of Pacer errors to pull back in front 6-4. USC Aiken got one back in the bottom of seventh after a one-out triple and an error by LMC, but that was where its comeback stalled.
Game 2 Recap – After totaling a season-high 11 hits in the first game of the day, the Bobcats followed that performance up with 10 hits in game two. Even with the Bobcat offense finding consistency, the Pacer offense outdid LMC scoring 10 runs on nine hits to salvage game two, 10-6.
Sarah Tucker led LMC's offense in game two going 3-for-4 at the plate. Meanwhile, Cunningham took the loss in the circle for the Bobcats moving her record to 2-4 on the season after pitching 3.2 innings and striking out five hitters.
Next Up – LMC will be back in action Tuesday at Tusculum. First pitch for that twin bill is set for 2 p.m. from Greeneville, Tenn.
