BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College softball team will be back in action this week with six games on tap. LMC will start off the week with a twin bill at Tusculum on Tuesday before competing at the Coker College Spring Tournament with two games on Saturday and two more on Sunday. Tuesday's contests will begin at 2 p.m., while Saturday's and Sunday's will start at 10 a.m. and 9 a.m., respectively.
Last Time Out – Lees-McRae split a doubleheader at USC Aiken on Sunday. LMC won game one, 6-5, but dropped game two, 10-6. With the results on Sunday, Lees-McRae's record stands at 2-8.
On the Road Again – The Bobcats have played the first 10 games of this season away from Banner Elk. LMC will play six more contests away from home before its first scheduled home games on March 2 against Mars Hill.
Some more strike outs – Junior Kara Cunningham currently leads all Conference Carolinas pitchers with 35 strikeouts on the season. Additionally, Cunningham is averaging more than a strikeout per inning pitched this season with her inning total currently sitting at 33.
Lees-McRae going yard – LMC connected on its first four home runs of this season last week. Noel Cassidy, Kirsten Doss, Katie Robinson and Sarah Beth Thomas all hit round-trippers with Robinson's and Thomas's long balls being the first of their respective careers.
Improved Offense – After scoring just two runs and having a team batting average of .153 in the first five games of the season, the Bobcats have turned the corner in their last five contests. Over its last five, Lees-McRae is hitting .257 as a squad and have scored 19 runs.
About the Opponents – Of their five opponents this week, only Tusculum and Coker have played games so far this season. The Pioneers are 4-2 in 2018, while the Cobras are a perfect 10-0 this spring. LMC will also take on Bloomsburg University, University of Charleston and Fairmont State at the Coker College Spring Tournament this weekend.
