GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Lees-McRae College softball team picked up a split on the road at Tusculum Tuesday afternoon. The Bobcats won the first game 3-1 before falling in game two by a score of 2-1. With the results on Tuesday, LMC's record stands at 3-9 on the season.
Game 1 Recap – Lees-McRae put together arguably its best offensive performance of the season in the first game. LMC was consistently threatening to score throughout the contest as it had at least one runner on every inning except the seventh. With that being said, the Pioneers kept the Bobcats from putting runs on the scoreboard for the most part. LMC, however, broke through with a pair of runs in the fourth and added another in the fifth. The three runs proved to be enough as the Bobcats picked up a 3-1 victory over the Pioneers.
Starting pitcher Kara Cunningham kept the Pioneer offense in check allowing just four hits and one run in seven innings of work to pick up her third win of the season. Offensively, the Bobcats were led by Katie Robinson, Alix Green and Cunningham. Robinson went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI, while Green and Cunningham both added two hits each.
Game 2 Recap – The second contest of Tuesday was definitely ruled by the players in the circle. LMC starter Cassidy Largen and Tusculum starter Allison Pate combined to keep the opposing offenses to a total of three runs and six hits in game two. Unfortunately for Lees-McRae, the Pioneers scored two of those three runs to upend the Bobcats, 2-1.
Largen pitched the entire game for the Bobcats allowing two runs (both earned) on three hits with three strikeouts. Offensively, Sarah Tucker, Robinson and Green accounted for the three hits for Lees-McRae.
Next Up – The Bobcats will return to action this Saturday as they open play at the Coker College Spring Tournament. LMC will take on Bloomsburg at 10 a.m. before taking on host school Coker at 12:30 p.m.
