HIGH POINT, N.C. – Lees-McRae College softball player Kara Cunningham was named the Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Week Tuesday afternoon by the league office. It marks the second time this season that Cunningham has earned this honor, and the third time during her collegiate career.
"Kara has been lights out lately and as a Coach there's nothing more I could ask her to do," said LMC Head Coach Jaclin Poole. "All of her hard work shows when it's game time and the pressure is on. I am extremely proud of her accomplishments so far this season, but excited to see how the rest of the season goes leading into conference tournament."
Cunningham was an integral part of LMC posting a record of 3-1 last week. The Indian Trial, North Carolina native was the pitcher of record in all four contests. In her work in the circle, Cunningham logged 18 and two-thirds innings of work and posted a 1.87 ERA to go along with 15 strikeouts. Additionally, Cunningham also provided a boost offensively hitting .364 in 11 at-bats.
Cunningham has been one of the most productive pitchers in Conference Carolinas this spring as she ranks in the top five in the league in wins (13 – third), ERA (1.49 – fourth) and strikeouts (103 – fifth). With her 13 wins this season, Cunningham needs just three more wins to break the program's single-season wins record.
Cunningham and the rest of the Bobcats will hit the road for the final time during their regular season Wednesday as they travel to Limestone for a conference doubleheader. First pitch of the twin bill is set for 2 p.m.
