BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College softball team split a pair of games against Emmanuel College Friday afternoon in Banner Elk. The Lions edged the Bobcats in game one, 5-3, before the Bobcats rebounded to shutout the Lions in game two, 2-0. The results Friday pushes LMC's record to 15-23 overall and 10-8 in league play. The 15 victories match the team's win total from all of last season.

Game One Recap – Emmanuel scored four runs in the top of the first inning, which proved to be all the offense it needed as it went on to win game one by a score of 5-3.

Juniors Kara Cunningham and Noel Cassidy provided the bulk of the offense for LMC in game one. Cassidy went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Cunningham drove in all three runs with a double on her way to a 2-for-3 outing at the plate. Ashlyn Mills accounted for the other hit for Lees-McRae with a pinch hit single.

Cunningham took the loss in game one for the Bobcats dropping her record to 14-11 on the season. Cunningham allowed five runs on seven hits and struck out six Lion hitters in seven innings of work.

Game Two Recap – The backend of Friday's twin bill was much more of a pitchers' duel. Emmanuel's Madison Hopper and LMC's duo of Gabrielle Moyer and Cunningham all kept the opposing offenses in check. The 0-0 tie finally broke in the bottom of the sixth when the Bobcats scratched across two unearned runs to blank Emmanuel, 2-0.

The Bobcat offense only managed three hits in game two. Caitlyn Ray and Emily Merriam both went 1-for-3, while Mills came up and got a key pinch-hit RBI double to break the scoreless deadlock.

Moyer started game two for Lees-McRae and pitched well. The sophomore pitcher scattered five hits and did not walk a batter in four innings of work. Cunningham, who picked up the win for LMC, tossed three scoreless allowing just two hits. With the victory, Cunningham picked up her 15th win of the season, which ties the most ever by a Bobcat pitcher in a single season.

Next Up – Lees-McRae will wrap up its regular season Saturday afternoon when it hosts rival King University at the LMC Softball Field. First pitch between the Tornado and Bobcats is set for 2 p.m.
