BURLINGTON, N.C. – Lees-McRae College softball players Caitlyn Ray, Kara Cunningham and Noel Cassidy landed spots on the All-Conference Carolinas Second Team the league office announced Thursday night at the league banquet. The three all-league performers are the most for the program since 2011.
Ray was arguably the Bobcats' most consistent offensive player this spring. The sophomore outfielder hit .316 with 21 runs scored an 11 RBI. The Summerfield, North Carolina native led the team in runs, hits (43), while being third on the team with six stolen bases.
Cunningham had a record-setting season in the circle for the Bobcats in 2018. Cunningham broke the program's single-season wins record for a pitcher with 16. Cunningham broke the previous record of 15 victories set by Natalie McNabb during the 1999 season. Additionally, Cunningham ranks within the top five in the conference in ERA (5th – 1.74), wins (3rd – 16) and strikeouts (5th – 130).
Cassidy was a consistent contributor for the Bobcats all season long. The Myrtle Beach, South Carolina played in and started all 40 games for LMC. The junior backstop hit .265 with one home run, 17 RBI and 10 runs scored.
Ray, Cunningham, Cassidy and the rest of the Bobcats will be back in action Friday morning opening up the Conference Carolinas Softball Tournament against rival King University. First pitch is at 11 a.m. from Springwood Park in Burlington.
