The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats basketball team played host to Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference opponent St. Andrew's Presbyterian College Saturday afternoon, falling 78-69. The Lady Bobcats fall to 3-8, (1-5 CVAC).
Playing one of the top teams in the CVAC, the Lady Bobcats came out flying, opening up an early 10-2 lead. The run and gun Lady Knights fought their way back to within one on a pair of occasions, but the Lady Bobcats would come roaring back. With the score 17-16, the Lady Bobcats raced out to a twelve point lead with a 13-2 run, to lead 30-18. However, the twelve point cushion would not last as the Knights again fought back, taking their first lead of the game with two minutes remaining in the first, to take a two point lead into halftime, 35-33.
Eariel Gholson's three pointer at 15:35 of the second half regained the lead for the home side, 41-40. Ashley Mitchell gave the Knights the lead for good with a field goal and a pair of free throws, 52-49. Erika Thompson nailed a pair from the charity stripe and followed up with a field goal of her own to make the score 56-49, and put the game out of reach. The Lady Bobcats would not roll over so easy, and continued to claw their way back, but were unable to get closer than four points, as the Lady Knights improved to 6-1 in CVAC play, good enough for second place behind undefeated Anderson University.
Mitchell led the Lady Knights with 21 points while Karen Foggie added 17. Danielle Norman had a game high 11 rebounds and chipped in 15 points while Thompson added 13.
Dianca Jones, (pictured top left), led the Lady Bobcats with a game high 22 points while Stephanie Mullinax added 16 and a team high 8 rebounds. Gholson added 11 points for the home side, who lost their third straight.
The Lady Bobcats will regroup on Sunday as they prepare to host
CVAC rival Pfeiffer University Monday evening at 5:30pm.
