The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats hosted Pfeiffer University Lady Falcons in Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference action Monday evening, falling 83-65. The loss drops the Lady Bobcats to 3-9, (1-6 CVAC), while the Lady Falcons move into a tie for top spot in the conference with the victory, 11-3, (6-1 CVAC).
The Lady Falcons came out flying in the first, quickly establishing a 5-0 lead before the Lady Bobcats came alive. With the score tied at 14, the Lady Falcons went on a 14-5 run to hold a nine point advantage 28-19. A pair of free throws from Stephanie Mullinax cut the deficit to seven, but that was as close as the Lady Bobcats would come, as the high flying Lady Falcons poured on the offence to coast into halftime with a 47-27 lead.
The Lady Falcons would show no signs of letting up in the second half increasing their lead to as much as 28. The Lady Bobcats would prove to be no match for their first place CVAC rivals, as the lead had become insurmountable for the home side, and the visitors cruised to the eighteen point victory.
Tamara Clay led the visitors with a game high 25 points while Lauren Brittingham and Raven Truslow contributed 22 and 15 respectively. Cathi Kennings played the role of playmaker for the Lady Falcons with a game high 9 assists.
The Lady Bobcats had a well balanced attack, with all but two of the fifteen players dressed hitting the score sheet. Mullinax, Brittany Roberson and Amanda Huffaker led the Lady Bobcats with eight points each while Jessica Lunsford had six, and Dianca Jones and Cameron Crapps added a nickel's worth. Four Lady Bobcats hit the score sheet with four points apiece. Roberson, (pictured top left); also had a game high seven rebounds.
The Lady Bobcats will look to regroup Thursday as they close a three game home stand with CVAC foe Queen's University. Tip off is set for 5:30pm.
