The #23 Anderson University Lady Trojans squeezed out a 69-62 win over the visiting Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats Monday evening in Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference action. The Bobcats fall to 6-11, (4-7 CVAC).
The Trojans, also ranked number two in the East Region, took a 31-28 lead into halftime, but the Bobcats managed to claw their way through the entire game to keep pace with the CVAC's top ranked team. With 9:10 remaining, Lees-McRae held a 44-39 lead, before the depth of the powerful Lady Trojans regained control. Keana Boyd got things started with a lay up to tie the score at 48 before Shadae Thompson drained a trey to give the home side the lead for good 51-48.
Three free throws and a field goal by Boyd and a single free throw by Thompson helped Anderson build a 57-50 lead with 4:21 left. As they had all game, the Lady Bobcats showed plenty of fight and clawed their way back. Dianca Jones got things rolling, scoring seven points in a span of two and a half minutes to cut the Lady Trojan lead to 61-60 with 1:07 remaining.
Anderson clinched the win making six free throws in the games final 29 seconds to hang on for the win and avoid an upset to hungry Lady Bobcats. Anderson improves to 16-3, (10-2 CVAC).
Boyd led Anderson with a game high 27 points while Thompson chipped in 14 and Latrice Thomas ten respectively.
Jones, (pictured top left), led Lees-McRae with 19 points, 14 in the second half, while Cameron Capps tallied 11, and Victoria Valentin added 10.
The Lady Bobcats will return to action Thursday when they host Limestone College at 5:30pm at Williams Gymnasium.
