The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats basketball team traveled to Charlotte, NC Monday evening for a match up against Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference for Queen's University of Charlotte. The Lady Bobcats improved their record to 8-14, (6-9 CVAC) with a 74-60 win while the Royals dropped to 4-19, (1-15 CVAC).
The Royals jumped out to take the first lead but were unable to put together any significant run to pull away. The Lady Bobcats would hand around and tie the score at 16 with 7:35 to play. With the score still tied, 20-20, just under two minutes later, the Lady Bobcats began to pull away to take the momentum into halftime, closing out the half on an 11-3 run to lead 31-23 at recess.
The Lady Bobcats built off of the run to end the first half, extending their lead to as much as 28 with 12 minutes to play. The Royals would show that they are team not well represented by their CVAC record, and began to charge back. However the damage had been done, and time was on the side of the Lady Bobcats, as they escaped with the fourteen point win.
Taukia Hughes, (pictured top left), led the Lady Bobcats in both point and rebounds with 14 and eight respectively. Stephanie Mullinax added 12 points to go along with six rebounds while Dianca Jones chipped in with 11 and points and pulled down four rebounds of her own.
The Lady Bobcats travel to Pfeiffer University Thursday to take on the high flying Falcons at 5:30pm. Pfeiffer sits atop the CVAC standings along with Anderson, both with identical 14-2 CVAC records.
