St. Andrews Presbyterian College dominated the paint to hold off Lees-McRae College Saturday afternoon, 61-56, in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women's basketball action. The Lady Knights improve to 18-7, (14-5 CVAC) while the Lady Bobcats fell to 8-16, (6-11 CVAC) with the loss.
St. Andrews led for most of the first half but a late 9-2 run gave the visitors a slim 27-25 advantage at the intermission. The Knights only shot 27% in the first half while the Lady Bobcats connected on 44% of their attempts.
The game remained close until the Lady Knights Ashley Mitchell broke the eighth tie of the game with three made free throws with 4:24 left to give the home side the lead for good. SAPC kept the momentum and built up a seven-point lead in the final minute, coasting to the five point victory.
Danielle Norman led the Lady Knights with a team high 18 points and a game high 16 rebounds. Mitchell finished with nine points, six boards, and a game-high six assists.
SAPC responded from its poor shooting first half by making 52% of its field goals in the second half to finish the game at 37% accuracy.
Dianca Jones, (pictured top left), scored a game high 30 points for the Lady Bobcats, shooting 13 for 23 from the floor and contributing six steals. Brittany Roberson snagged a team high nine rebounds for the visitors while Cameron Crapps chipped in nine points.
The Lady Bobcats will return home for the first time in four
games Monday evening when they host Limestone College. Tip off is
scheduled for 5:30pm.
