THOMASVILLE, NC--Lees-McRae College senior basketball player Stephanie Mullinax has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas Player of the Week during week number three of the 2007-08 season. Mullinax led the Lady Bobcats to a pair of Conference Carolinas wins last week over #25 Anderson and Coker.
After missing the Lady Bobcats' first game of the week against Carson-Newman due to an injury suffered in the previous game, the Etowah, TN native returned to the court to spark the Lady Bobcats to their first and second wins of the season, including the Lady Bobcats' first upset over a nationally ranked opponent under second year Head Coach Sebastian Wild. Anderson entered last week's contest ranked No. 25 in the ESPN/USA Today's National Poll and at 0-4 Lees-McRae faced a stiff challenge as they looked for their first win of the season. With just over a minute to play in regulation, Mullinax spotted up behind the arc and drained a three pointer that solidified her double-double (11 pts. & 11 rebounds) and guaranteed the upset of the nationally ranked Lady Trojans, giving the Lady Bobcats an important road win over one of the conference's perennial contenders. Mullinax would continue to play with the hot hand against Coker, netting a game high 31 points, shooting 10 for 15 from the field and 11 for 13 from the charity stripe, while also adding 11 rebounds for her second straight double-double.
The Lady Bobcats, (2-5, 2-1 Conference Carolinas), will host
Converse College this evening at Williams Gymnasium. Tipoff is
scheduled for 5:00pm.
