Misenheimer, NC--In Conference Carolinas women's basketball action Monday night at Pfeiffer University the Lady Bobcats fell 66-55 after being held scoreless for the last 8:21 of the game. Lees-McRae's record slips to 4-9 overall (3-4 conference) while Pfeiffer climbs to 6-7 (3-3).
Althought the Lady Bobcats were the first to score in tonight's contest, and led for the first five minutes of the game, it was the Lady Falcons who forged ahead to clinch a conference victory.
Lees-McRae kept the game within six points until the last minute of the first half when two turnovers and a foul by the Bobcats gave the Lady Falcons the opportunity to push the halftime lead to nine with the score 37-28.
The Lady Bobcats clawed their way back into the game, pulling within five at the 15:32 mark on a made three by sophomore Renee Roberson (Salisbury, NC). The Lady Falcon's Dominique China (Durham, NC) answered right back with a three of her own. The team then capitalized on a Bobcat turnover for the easy layup to effectively take the Lady Bobcats out of the game.
Though the Lady Bobcats continued to fight, the Falcon defense proved too much tonight.
Renee Roberson, with 17 points, led the Lady Bobcats in scoring for the second game in a row. Roberson shot 67% from the field, 50% from 3pt, and went 3-3 from the line. Senior Stephanie Mullinax (Etowah, TN) pulled down 11 rebounds in tonight's effort.
The Lady Falcons saw balanced scoring out of their squad with eight players contributing six or more points each.
