BANNER ELK, NC--The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats basketball team snapped a five game losing skid in convincing fashion Monday night at Williams Gymnasium, topping the visiting Erskine College Flying Fleet 73-42 in Conference Carolinas action. The Lady Bobcats improve to 5-12, (4-7 Conference Carolinas) while the Fleet fall to 2-14, (2-8).
The Lady Bobcats came out hungry, opening the game with a 10-0 run before Carolina Crowell put the visitors on the board draining her second free throw attempt with just over six and a half minutes gone. The Fleet would battle back to within four, 20-16, with 7:30 to play in the first, only to see the Lady Bobcats turn things up and take a twelve point lead into halftime, 40-28.
After giving up five points in the first minute, and the score 42-33, the Lady Bobcats held the Fleet at 33 for just over twelve minutes, while increasing their lead to 24, 57-33. The Lady Bobcats shot 53.7% from the field over the game, while holding Erskine to 24.1%.
"This was a much needed win for us," commented Head Coach Sebastian Wild. "We executed our game plan very well and had contributions from everyone on the bench."
Stephanie Mullinax (Etowah, TN) led the Lady Bobcats attack with a game high 20 points while also pulling down five rebounds. Chahkia Harrison (Baltimore, MD) went 3-4 from behind the arc, chipping in with 14 points while Cortney Furr (Concord, NC) added 13, as well as a game high nine rebounds.
Mary Ann Langford (LaGrange, GA) and Lauren Brendle (High Point, NC) led the way for the Flying Fleet with 14 and nine points respectively.
The Bobcats will host Anderson University Thursday evening at Williams Gymnasium looking to complete the season sweep. Earlier this season the Lady Bobcats topped the Lady Trojans 56-53, who at the time were ranked #25 in the nation. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30pm.
