BANNER ELK, NC--The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats earned its second win in three games Saturday afternoon, defeating St. Andrews Presbyterian College Lady Knights 68-56 at Williams Gymnasium in Conference Carolinas action. The Lady Bobcats improve to 6-13 (5-8 Conference Carolinas) while the Lady Knights record moves to 5-15 (4-9).
After trading baskets for the first three and a half minutes and the score knotted at six, the Lady Bobcats went on an 11-4 run to grab a seven point lead, 17-10. The Lady Knights would respond by topping the Lady Bobcats by one with a 12-4 run to gain the 22-21 advantage with 7:34 remaining in the half. The teams would revert back to trading baskets for the remainder of the half, totaling seven ties and seven lead changes before the break with the visitors up one, 32-31.
In the second half, the Lady Knights were the first to slightly pull away, building a four point lead at 43-39, however the Lady Bobcats would claw their way back and tie the score at 45 before any serious damage was done. With the score tied for the tenth time, the Lady Bobcats would gain the game's tenth lead change, going up 47-46 with 10:24 remaining. The Lady Bobcats would tighten up defensively and control the pace of the game, outscoring the Lady Knights 21-10 to earn the victory.
"I am happy with the way we played today," stated Head Coach Sebastian Wild. "We made some adjustments at halftime and focused more on the defensive side of the ball in the second. We received a great game from Steph, (senior forward Stephanie Mullinax), she was all over the place out there."
Mullinax (Etowah, TN) finished with a game high 16 points and 16 rebounds for the double double while Chahkia Harrison (Baltimore, MD) tied Mullinax with 16 points. Brittany Roberson (Salisbury, NC) and Cortney Furr (Concord, NC) chipped in with 12 and 10 respectively.
Jackie Cromer (Greensboro, NC) led the Lady Knights with 15 points while April Johnson (McColl, SC) registered 14.
The Lady Bobcats will take things on the road next week with a pair of games in the Charlotte area taking on Belmont Abbey Monday and Queens Thursday. Both games are scheduled to tipoff at 5:30pm.
