Mullinax Leads Lady Bobcats to Win on Senior Night

BANNER ELK, NC--The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats basketball team defeated Limestone College 71-68 Wednesday evening in Conference Carolinas action at Williams Gymnasium. The Lady Bobcats improve to 7-17 (6-12 Conference Carolinas) while the Saints fall to 14-13 (9-8).

The teams traded baskets for much of the first half until the Lady Saints made a push with 11:16 on the clock. Leading 12-11 the Lady Saints went on a 6-0 run to take their largest lead of the game, seven points, with 7:36 to play. The Lady Bobcats would respond with an 11-1 run to close the half with a 22-19 advantage.

Building on the momentum they closed the first with, the second half was all Lees-McRae. While the Lady Saints hung around for the early part of the second, the Lady Bobcats went on a 10-0 run with the score 31-30 to take a commanding eleven point lead, their largest of the game, with 13:02 to play. Playing with the lead, the Lady Bobcats allowed the Saints back into the game as they slowly cut the deficit and regained the lead 65-64 with 1:27 to play. The Lady Bobcats would regain the lead on a pair of free throws from senior Stephanie Mullinax (Etowah, TN), making seven of eight down the stretch from the charity stripe to seal the win on the Lady Bobcats' Senior Night.

Mullinax, the lone senior on the Lady Bobcats roster this season, played every minute of her final contest at Williams Gymnasium leading all scorers and recording game highs in points, 26, and rebounds with eight. Junior Cortney Furr (Concord, NC) chipped in 14 points for the Lady Bobcats while sophomore Renee Roberson (Salisbury, NC) and Jessica Lunsford (Elk Park, NC) also scored in double digits recording 11 and 10 points respectively.

Lindsay Kyle led the Lady Saints with 21 points while Ariel Lyons and Essence Greer chipped in with 12 and 11 points respectively.

The Lady Bobcats will close out the 2007-08 season on the road with three games. This Saturday the Lady Bobcats travel to Wilson, NC to battle Barton College. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30pm.
