BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College women's basketball team fell to Milligan College, 59-55, Monday night in a nonconference game Monday night in Williams Gymnasium.
The Lady Bobcats an early 9-4 lead on a Janina Thurau field goal with 15:12 remaining in the half, but three minutes later Milligan used a 6-0 run to take a 10-9 lead. Milligan would extend the lead to four to 15-11 with 9:32 remaining in the half, but this time Lees-McRae would rally to tie the game at 17 with just over six minutes left in the first half. Over the final six minutes, Milligan would take a five-point lead only to see the Lady Bobcats rally and take a 29-27 halftime lead.
In the second half, the Lady Bobcats quickly extended the lead to eight, 32-27, two minutes into the half, and held the lead the majority of the half. Lees-McRae was up nine, 52-43 with just under six minutes remaining, but Milligan would rally and take the lead, 53-52, with 2:28 left. Lees-McRae would take the lead, 55-54, before Milligan would end the game on a 5-0 run to win the game, 59-55.
The Lady Bobcats were 38 percent from the floor and 41 percent from behind the three-point arc, while Milligan was 35 percent from the floor and 14 percent from three.
Lauren Casey paced Lees-McRae with 14 points and added six rebounds and two assists. Icey Patterson followed with 11 points, and Janina Thurua added nine points. Colette Montgomery grabbed a team high nine rebounds.
The Lady Bobcats will host North Greenville Thursday at 5 p.m. for their next game.
