Lewis Legit, Patterson Freezes Erskine, 73-69

DUE WEST, S.C. --- Lees-McRae women's basketball seniors Lauren Lewis (28) and Icey Patterson (18) produced season-highs in points while LMC clipped Erskine, 73-69, in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon at Belk Arena in Due West, S.C.

The Bobcats (11-11, 8-5 CC) picked up their second road win on the year and claimed sole possession of fourth place while forcing 22 turnovers. The Flying Fleet (12-9, 7-6) were swept by Lees-McRae this season by a combined of five points while Raygon Hendrix went off for 21 points.

Lewis (Concord, N.C.) came out on fire while knocking down her first eight shots boosting LMC to an early 26-19 lead. Natalija Cakarevic (Belgrade, Serbia) chimed in with four points, two rebounds and a steal.

Erskine responded with an 11-2 run over the next four minutes despite only knocking down two field goals during the stretch.

Senior Layana De Souza (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) drained a pair of free-throws with 1:08 remaining, but the Flying Fleet ended the half on a 5-0 run thanks a trey from Rosa Powell and a jumper from Andrienne Bannerman while the Bobcats held a slim two-point advantage, 37-35.

Both squads shot 44% from the floor in the first 20 minutes while Lewis had 20 points.

EC would take its first lead of the evening thanks an 8-0 run to start the second half.

Patterson (Seneca, S.C.) would score 10 of the Bobcats next 14 points before a Lewis three-point while LMC retook the lead, 54-45.

The Bobcats would continue to apply pressure and secure their largest lead of the game (10), thanks to efficient free-throw shooting.

The Flying Fleet would inch back with a 10-1 run and hold the Bobcat offense scoreless for the next 3:30, 65-64.

Junior Kabrina Truesdale (Wilmington, N.C.) converted an oldfashion three-point play to snap the drought while Patterson knocked down four free-throws to salt away the victory.

The Bobcat defense held strong in the second half by holding EC to 32.3% from the floor. Lewis has recorded double figures in five consecutive games while Patterson shot an efficient 6-of-8 from the floor.

Junior Kerri Belcher (Roanoke, Va.) grabbed a game-high nine rebounds while LMC held the advantage on the glass (47-39).

The Bobcats seeks their fourth win in six games with a trip to North Greenville Wednesday at 5:30 in Tigerville, S.C.
