Bobcats Fall to Young Harris, 50-45

BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Freshman Alex Anderson scored a team-high 12 points and the Lees-McRae defense forced 22 turnovers, but the women's basketball team fell to Young Harris, 50-45, in a nonconference tilt Saturday afternoon at Williams Gymnasium in Banner Elk, N.C.

The Mountain Lions (2-1) were led by Kaycee Cash's double-double (13 points, 12 rebounds) while holding LMC to a 21.4% clip in the second half. The Bobcats (2-2) dished out 14 assists on 18 field goals.

LMC's offense caught fire midway through the first by knocking down 8-of-10 field goals in a nine-minute span to take a 27-21 lead.

Sophomore Tayler Collins (Fayetteville, N.C.) and Anderson (Kingsport, Tenn.) connected on jumpers while sophomore Niroska Perez (Asheville, N.C.) splashed a three.

Both offenses went stagnant for the final 5:20 of the first half while there were only two field goals made, both by YHC.

The Mountain Lions' Virginia Scott tied it at 28 with a layup with 18:04 remaining in the second half.

Cash scored five of her game-high 13 points while YHC went on a 9-0 run to take a 37-28 lead.

The Bobcats offense was held in check while not scoring a field goal for 15 minutes.

Anderson knocked down a pair of jumpers to shave the deficit to three, 37-34, but Peyton Robertson's and-one pushed the lead back to eight, 44-36.

Seniors Kerri Belcher (Roanoke, Va.) and Kabrina Truesdale (Wilmington, N.C.) put together a 4-0 run to make it 48-45.

Cash used a layup with 1:28 remaining to cap off the scoring while LMC's rally fell short in the waning minutes of the contest.
