BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Senior Kabrina Truesdale registered a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, but a shorthanded Lees-McRae women's basketball team fell to Barton, 69-47, in a Conference Carolinas contest Saturday afternoon at Williams Gymnasium in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Bulldogs (3-8, 2-2 CC) had a quartet of players with at least 10 points while the defense was rock solid while holding LMC to 22.7% from the field. The Bobcats' (3-8, 2-3) Mikayla Bennett (Erwin, Tenn.) dropped a career-high 10 points while knocking down two three's.
Both teams struggled to maintain possession of the ball while they combined for 46 turnovers.
Truesdale (Wilmington, N.C.) paced both teams in rebounds while BC's Shatisha Dukes led the visitors with 10 while scoring 10 points.
The Bulldogs' Tiffany Webster notched five of her 13 points while her squad took a 13-3 lead in the first six-plus minutes of action.
Brianna Thomas got in on the action with six points while BC extended the lead to 14, 23-9.
Thomas and Kaila Lea led all scorers with 14 points each.
LMC freshman Caitlin Brown (Burns, N.C.) caught fire by draining three consecutive jumpers to keep the deficit at 10, 29-19.
Lea matched Brown by hitting a trio of shots, including her lone three of the day.
Freshman Mackenzie Blankenship (Elizabethton, Tenn.) and Truesdale tallied buckets in the final 35 seconds of the first half.
Neither team could produce much from outside the arc in the first 20 minutes while combining to go 3-for-18.
Barton ripped off a 27-7 run, capped off by a Chanel Shannon three, in the first 9:55 of the second half.
Bennett scored seven of her 10 points in a 44-second spurt while Blankenship followed suit with five straight of her own.
The Bulldogs staved off a rally opportunity by not allowing a field goal the final 4:45.
