BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The senior duo of Kerri Belcher and Kabrina Truesdale combined for 32 points in a Conference Carolinas loss to King (Tenn.), 63-47, Tuesday evening at Williams Gymnasium in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Tornado (17-5, 12-4 CC) used a 20-point effort from Tia Keitt and a 10-rebound performance from Jalan Harper while the team shot 45% in the second half. The Bobcats (5-17, 4-12) tallied 15 points off of turnovers.
Truesdale (Wilmington, N.C.) followed up Saturday's 27-point effort by dropping 19 and recording four steals.
KU's Bonnie Durrett and Keitt drained a trio threes to spark a 13-2 run to begin play.
Junior Tayler Collins (Fayetteville, N.C.) connected on a jumper to snap a 3:11 scoreless drought while the Tornado held a 22-11 lead.
LMC clawed its way back into it after freshman Autumn Bradshaw (Elizabethton, Tenn.) splashed a pair of free throws before Belcher (Roanoke, Va.) and Collins scored on lay ups, 31-26.
The Tornado used a quick 7-0 spurt in the final 1:34 to take a 38-26 lead into the intermission.
KU would sustain a double-digit lead before stretching the advantage to 24, following a quartet of points from Amy Van Deventer.
Truesdale caught fire and scored 10 consecutive points for the Bobcats before a Belcher triple concluded scoring on the evening.
Coach Michele Williams' defense allowed only three field goals in the final 7:50.
The charity stripe was quite lonely on the evening while the teams combined to shoot only 11 free throws.
The Bobcats travel to Due West, S.C. to take on Erskine Saturday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m.
