YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. --- Freshman Markia Stacey led the team with nine points while the Lees-McRae women's basketball team dropped a 53-36 decision to Young Harris at the YHC Basketball Arena Saturday evening in Young Harris, Ga.
The Mountain Lions (2-1) used a strong defense that forced 32 turnovers while Sarah Garner led the team offensively with 12 points. The Bobcats (0-4) saw senior Tayler Collins (Fayetteville, N.C.) make her season debut with four points and five rebounds.
Stacey (Morganton, N.C.) and freshman Alexis Ammons (Asheville, N.C.) logged 35 minutes each.
YHC jumped out to an 8-0 lead while holding LMC scoreless for the first 6-plus minutes of the contest.
The Bobcats responded loudly with a 10-0 run of their own, capped off by a pair of Collins' free throws in a two-minute span.
The Mountain Lions took an 11-point advantage into the intermission after scoring 20 points in the second quarter.
LMC knocked down a trio of shots in the third, but trailed 44-28 into the fourth.
Neither team produced 10 points in the final frame.
Brea Forbes (Freeport, Bahamas) led the team with nine rebounds.
The Bobcat defense played strong and held YHC to 25.4% from the field.
LMC opens Conference Carolinas play Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 5:30 p.m. when it welcomes Mount Olive to Williams Gymnasium.
