GREENWOOD, S.C. --- Freshman Alexis Ammons scored a season-high 20 points and the Lees-McRae women's basketball scored a season-best 80 points, but fell to Lander, 111-80, in a nonconference tilt at Horne Arena Monday evening in Greenwood, S.C.
The Bearcats (7-2) had a trio of players with 18 points or better, led by Breshay Johnson, who finished with 26. The Bobcats (1-8) notched a season-high in points while shooting 51.6% from the field.
Ammons (Asheville, N.C.) notched her third double-digit effort of the season while Lexus Norwood (Knoxville, Tenn.) was perfect on the night and amassed a season-high 11 points.
Both offenses came out on a roll while a Norwood triple and Mackenzie Blankenship (Johnson City, Tenn.) bucket LMC up 17-13 at the 3:15 mark of the first quarter.
Johnson tallied a pair of baskets to tie the contest at 25 at the quarter's end.
LU gained momentum with a trio of short-bucket makes to grab a 33-26 lead before Bobcats' Taylor Fluette (Burlington, N.C.) nailed a three at the 5:51 mark.
It was the first made field goal of the quarter for LMC.
The Bearcats extended the lead after a 25-4 run.
Freshman Markia Stacey (Morganton, N.C.) splashed a three with 3:40 remaining in the half.
Senior Tayler Collins (Fayetteville, N.C.) dished out a pair of assists on consecutive triples in the third.
Freshman Breana Hardnett (Greensboro, N.C.) provided selfless offense with a game-high 11 assists.
LU pulled away in the fourth after starting the frame with an 11-2 run.
The Bearcats' Sannayyiah Johnson provided 25 points off the bench while LU forced 29 turnovers.
LMC held the rebound advantage while sophomore Caitlin Brown (Kingstown, N.C.) led the squad with seven.
The Bobcats travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico to battle P.R.-Bayamon Friday, Dec. 18 at 5 p.m.
