WILSON, N.C. --- Brea Forbes and Mackenzie Blankenship combined for 28 points, but the Lees-McRae women's basketball team dropped an 87-51 decision to Barton in Conference Carolinas action Tuesday evening at Wilson Gymnasium in Wilson, N.C.
The Bulldogs (6-11, 4-6 CC) shot 50% on the night while four players registered double figures. The Bobcats (5-12, 4-6) saw Forbes (Freeport, Bahamas) post team highs in points (15) and rebounds (eight).
BC's defense stymied the Bobcats by holding them to 25.5% from the floor.
After a pair of buckets from the Bulldogs' Karimah Dean, Blankenship (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Forbes responded with layups early in the first quarter, 5-4.
The Bulldogs held LMC without a bucket for 6:04 while stretching the lead to 13, 22-9.
Freshman Alexis Ammons (Asheville, N.C.) continued her strong post play with a bucket early in the second quarter before a deep three from Forbes cut the deficit to seven, 22-15.
Blankenship ripped off five consecutive points before a three from Taylor Fluette (Burlington, N.C.) made it 35-26.
Fluette turned in a career-high in minutes (17) and points (eight).
BC pushed the advantage to 13, 39-26, following a pair of jumpers from Caila Carter.
The Bulldogs held the Bobcats without a point for the first 5:08 of the third to gain a healthy lead.
Fluette and Blankenship hit back-to-back triples in the waning moments of the third.
BC's Kianna Wynn carried the offense with seven consecutive points before layups from Ciera Williams and Dean.
LMC went 9-for-10 in the fourth quarter from the charity stripe.
The Bobcats welcome Pfeiffer Saturday, Jan. 23 at 3 p.m. for a CC battle in Williams Gymnasium.
