DUE WEST, S.C. --- Lees-McRae freshman Alexis Ammons produced her first collegiate double-double, but the women's basketball team fell to Erskine, 74-57, in Conference Carolinas play at Belk Arena Tuesday evening in Due West, S.C.
The Flying Fleet (8-9, 7-4 CC) used a double-double off the bench from Christian Brown (21 points, 10 rebounds). The Bobcats (5-13, 4-7) enjoyed a 15-point, 10-rebound effort from Ammons (Asheville, N.C.).
Despite the loss, LMC dominated the boards with a +13 (56-43) advantage.
EC jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first 3:05 following a pair of jumpers from Myranda Parham.
The home squad pushed the advantage to 11 after a jumper and three-point bucket from Kristen Giles.
The Bobcats shaved the deficit to three, 16-13, after six made free throws, with 2:29 remaining in the opening quarter.
EC's defense held LMC without a point for the first 4:34 of the second quarter while extending the lead to 18, 33-15.
Freshman Markia Stacey (Morganton, N.C.) connected on a jumper to reduce the deficit to a dozen.
She finished with 16 points on the evening. It marks the fifth time she has scored 15 points or more.
LMC's Brea Forbes (Freeport, Bahamas) jolted the offense with a pair of buckets midway through the third, 47-36.
The Bobcats used a 6-0 run after three different players scored a bucket to cut the deficit to nine, 59-50, with 7:59 remaining in regulation.
The Flying Fleet responded with a 12-0 run over the next 3:20.
LMC's defense shutdown EC and didn't allow a point in the final 3:32 of play, but was unable to rally back.
The Flying Fleet held the Bobcats to a 2-for-16 mark from three-point range while Giles finished with 17 points.
Forbes nearly turned in a double-double with nine points and nine boards.
The Bobcats welcome Southern Wesleyan Friday, Jan. 29 at 5:30 p.m. for a CC tilt in Williams Gymnasium.
