BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Brea Forbes continued her impressive season with another double-double and a season-high 20 points while the Lees-McRae women's basketball cruised past a hapless Converse squad, 68-55, in Conference Carolinas play Saturday afternoon at Williams Gymnasium in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Bobcats (7-13, 6-7 CC) claimed their largest margin of victory on the season while holding the Valkyries (3-14, 2-11) to a 29.5% mark from the field.
Forbes (Freeport, Bahamas) shredded the Converse defense for 20 points and 15 rebounds.
Sophomore Mackenzie Blankenship (Johnson City, Tenn.) scored 14 points.
Blankenship splashed consecutive three pointers before a pair of free throws from Alexis Ammons (Asheville, N.C.) gave LMC an early 12-3 lead.
The Bobcat defense held the Valkyries without a bucket for the first 4:48 of the game.
Coach Michele Williams' squad took a 19-8 lead following a three from freshman Taylor Fluette (Burlington, N.C.).
Forbes and freshman Breana Hardnett (Greensboro, N.C.) scored LMC's first eight points of the second quarter to push the lead to 16, 28-12.
Converse's Brianna James scored eight of her team-high 15 in the final 2:44 of the half while LMC held a 33-24 lead.
The Valkyries shot a measly 23.3% from the field while missing six free throws.
Forbes drained another three to keep the lead at a dozen, 42-30, at the 6:06 mark in the third.
Converse used a pair of triples late in the third to shave the deficit to 10, heading into the final quarter.
The Bobcats kept the visitors at arm's length after a 4-0 run from Blankenship halfway through the frame.
Forbes and sophomore Caitlin Brown (Kingstown, N.C.) hit three free throws each down the stretch to conserve the win.
Brown finished with eight rebounds while Forbes and Markia Stacey (Morganton, N.C.) dished out four assists each.
LMC visits King (Tenn.) Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 5:30 p.m. in a CC game in Bristol, Tenn.
