BRISTOL, Tenn. --- Sophomore Mackenzie Blankenship dropped 16 points and Caitlin Brown grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds, but the Lees-McRae women's basketball team fell to King (Tenn.), 75-49, in Conference Carolinas play at the Student Center Complex Wednesday evening in Bristol, Tenn.
The Tornado (13-7, 12-2) complimented the win with a double-double from Amy Van Deventer (22 points, 11 rebounds) while the team scored 22 second chance points. The Bobcats (7-14, 6-8) saw their two-game win streak snapped despite six assists from freshman Markia Stacey (Morganton, N.C.).
LMC used a pair of Brea Forbes (Freeport, Bahamas) layups to grab a 10-2 lead in the first 4:20 of action.
Blankenship (Johnson City, Tenn.) kept the advantage at eight after ripping off five consecutive points in 20 seconds.
King's Whitney Mitchell responded with nine points during a Tornado 11-0 run in the final 2:58 of the first quarter.
Brown (Kingstown, N.C.) and senior Tayler Collins (Fayetteville, N.C.) connected on jumpers to knot the contest at 21.
Deventer tallied eight points to spark a 15-4 run to end the half for King.
She ripped off an 8-0 run to open play in the third quarter before Bobcats' Alexis Ammons (Asheville, N.C.) knocked down a jumper.
Blankenship and Ammons ignited an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 13, 50-37, in a span of 1:45.
The Tornado put the game out of reach by hitting four of their last five three-point attempts.
Ammons chipped in with 10 points.
The Bobcats host Barton Saturday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. in a CC tilt in Williams Gymnasium.
