BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Brea Forbes tied a season-high with 20 points and Alexis Ammons added 17, but the Lees-McRae women's basketball team dropped a Conference Carolinas bout with Pfeiffer, 78-68, Monday evening at Williams Gymnasium in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Falcons (8-14, 7-11 CC) used a game-high 23 points from Meg Pritchard while Ariana Tillman recorded five steals. The Bobcats (7-18, 6-12) had two players with nine rebounds while sophomore Mackenzie Blankenship (Johnson City, Tenn.) chipped in 15 points.
Freshman Markia Stacey (Morganton, N.C.) drained a three at the 5:53 mark while PU led 8-5.
The Falcons controlled the quarter and finished it with a 16-4 run.
Ammons (Asheville, N.C.) and Forbes (Freeport, Bahamas) used a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 10, 25-15.
Blankenship scored five consecutive points while LMC chipped away, 29-24.
PU sank seven free throws in the final 3:08 of the second quarter to take a 41-29 lead into the break.
Pritchard scored 15 of PU's 23 points in the third.
Layups from Stacey and Forbes midway through the fourth cut the disadvantage to nine, 72-63.
The Falcons staved off the comeback attempt with a stingy defense that allowed one made field goal in the final 4:32.
Sophomore Caitlin Brown (Kingstown, N.C.) and Forbes grabbed nine boards apiece.
Stacey finished with 11 points on the evening.
The Bobcats trek to Belmont Abbey Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 5:30 p.m. for a CC tilt in Belmont, N.C.
