FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. --- Mackenzie Blankenship and Markia Stacey scored 14 points apiece, but the Lees-McRae women's basketball was upended by Emmanuel (Ga.), 71-58, in a Conference Carolinas battle Saturday afternoon in Franklin Springs, Ga.
The Lions (17-9, 13-7 CC) had five players in double figures, including a game-high 21 from Elise Coberly. The Bobcats (8-19, 7-13) saw Brea Forbes (Freeport, Bahamas) grab a game-high 11 rebounds.
Freshman Breana Hardnett (Greensboro, N.C.) turned in quality minutes with 11 points and three boards.
LMC took a 12-4 lead after five consecutive points from Forbes and a jumper from Blankenship (Johnson City, Tenn.).
EC responded with a 12-2 run, powered by a trio of layups.
Blankenship drained a three with 53 seconds left in the first and senior Tayler Collins (Fayetteville, N.C.) hit a jumper at the buzzer while LMC led 19-18.
The Bobcat defense stymied the Lions for most of the second quarter by only allowing one made field goal in the first 6:15 of action.
Coberly scored 11 of EC's 13 points in the frame while the game went into the intermission tied at 31.
Stacey (Morganton, N.C.) drove the lane and put LMC up 37-35 with 6:03 left in the third.
EC's Addie McNeely jumpstarted a 14-6 run with a pair of three pointers, 49-43.
The Lions opened the fourth with a 7-2 spurt, but the Bobcats responded with another three from Blankenship.
Hardnett completed an and-one play to cut the deficit to five, 56-51.
EC staved off the rally and held LMC to two buckets for the rest of the contest.
Freshman Alexis Ammons (Asheville, N.C.) contributed four points and four rebounds off the bench.
LMC concludes its home portion of the season when it welcomes King (Tenn.) Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 5:30 p.m. in Williams Gymnasium.
