Bobcats battle but fall to Emmanuel, 52-49

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's basketball team rallied from an early deficit, but came up just short against Emmanuel (GA) College Tuesday night, 52-49. The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for LMC and moves its record to 4-19 on the season.

LMC struggled offensively in the opening 10 minutes shooting just 1-of-13 from the field in the frame. Neither team had much luck in the first four minutes as the score was 4-3 Emmanuel. Over the final six minutes, however, the Lions went on a 15-2 run to open a 19-5 lead on Lees-McRae after one period.

Lees-McRae and Emmanuel were locked in a defensive battle in the second quarter as both teams shot below 20 percent from the field. LMC was able to outscore the Lions, 11-9, to narrow the deficit to 12 (28-16) going to the half.

Following the break, the Bobcats found another gear to get within four of the Lions by the end of the quarter, 38-34. The duo of Markia Stacey and Brea Forbes combined for 15 of the team's 18 points in the third to power LMC's offense.

LMC continued to battle until it finally took the lead from the Lions, 45-42, with 3:46 remaining in regulation. EC outscored LMC 10-4 over the remaining time to sneak out a three-point win. The Bobcats had an opportunity to tie the game as time expired to force overtime, but it was off the mark.

47 of Lees-McRae's 49 points came from Breana Hardnett, Forbes and Stacey Tuesday. Stacey led the scorers with 21 points, while Hardnett posted 15 and Forbes rounded out the double figure scorers with 11.

The Bobcats will play their fourth home game in a row Saturday when they host Barton at 2 p.m.
