BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's basketball team will lift the lid on its 2017-18 season Friday evening when it travels to Coastal Carolina for an exhibition contest in Conway, S.C. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
About the Bobcats: Lees-McRae, which finished last season with a record of 4-24, should have experience on its side in most of its games this season. 13 players on its 17 player roster have played at least one season of collegiate basketball with nine of those players playing at least two years.
Preseason Prediction: LMC was selected to finish 10th in the Conference Carolinas the league office announced earlier this month. Juniors Alexis Ammons, Brea Forbes and Markia Stacey were tabbed as players to watch for the team this season.
New Leadership: During the offseason the Bobcats had a coaching change as Keith "Mister" Jennings was hired as the program's new Head Coach. Jennings, who was an assistant coach for LMC's men's basketball program for the past three seasons, has also added an assistant coach in Jaterra Hurst to his coaching staff for this season.
Dialing from Long Distance: One consistency that LMC has shown over the past few seasons has been its three-point shooting. In each of the past three seasons, Lees-McRae has posted three top 10 marks in program history in terms of three-point field goals attempted in a single season. The Bobcats attempted 531 shots from beyond the arc in 2016-17, which was the fourth-most in the one season in the history of the program.
About Coastal Carolina: Coastal Carolina was picked to finish 11th out of 12 teams in the Sun Belt's preseason poll. The Chanticleers posted a 13-16 record overall and an 8-10 mark in conference games last season. Friday's game will be the first ever meeting between Coastal Carolina and Lees-McRae.
