BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's basketball team will travel to Gaffney, South Carolina Saturday to take on Limestone in a Conference Carolinas clash. Tip-off between the Saints and Bobcats is set for 2 p.m.
Last Time Out: LMC dropped a 96-90 decision in overtime at Converse last Saturday. The loss moved Lees-McRae's record to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Forbes Filling Up the State Sheet: Junior Brea Forbes has been providing the Bobcats a substantial boost across nearly every category over the last few games. In the last two games, Forbes is averaging 24.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 6.5 steals and 3.5 blocks per game.
Looking for that first road win: When the two teams tip the ball off Saturday, the Bobcats will be looking for their first road win of the 2017-18 season. LMC is 0-4 in road games so far, but it has a 2-0 mark on its home court.
Freshman in the national rankings: Karli Mason has definitely made an impact so far in her career at Lees-McRae. Mason currently ranks second among all NCAA Division II women's basketball players in three-pointers made per game averaging 4.00. Only Union's Chelsey Shumpert has averaged more threes per contest than Mason with a mark of 4.13.
About the Opponent: The Saints currently sit at the top of the Conference Carolinas standings with a 2-0 mark in league games and a 5-2 record overall. Both of Limestone's losses have come against ranked opponents on the road in No. 14 Wingate and No. 15 Lander. Individually, the Saints have been led so far by the duo of Jasmine Richardson and Keidra Smith. Richardson paces Limestone averaging 18.3 points per game, while Smith is not far behind averaging 17.3 points to go along with 9.7 rebounds per game.
Series History vs. Opponent: Limestone is 26-21 all-time against the Bobcats. The Saints have held the decisive edge over LMC as of late as it has won 17 straight in the series. Lees-McRae's last win over Limestone came on March 3, 2009 in Gaffney, 64-62.
