BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's basketball team has two more Conference Carolinas contests on tap for this week. First, the Bobcats will make the short trip to Bristol to take on rival King University on Wednesday before returning home on Saturday to host Converse College. Tip-off for Wednesday's game is set for 5:30 p.m., while Saturday's tilt is scheduled to get underway at 2 p.m.
Last Time Out – Lees-McRae dropped its conference opener last Saturday on the road at Limestone College by a score of 87-63. The loss moves LMC's record to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in league action.
Back Home – Saturday's contest against Converse will mark the first home game for the Bobcats after a five-game road swing. Lees-McRae has fared well playing at home as it has knocked off Mars Hill (82-70) and Bluefield State (80-76) so far in its only two games at Williams Gymnasium. Furthermore, the Bobcats are averaging 80.5 points per game at home compared to 60.5 points per game in road games.
Close out 2019 on a high note – As the calendar turns to December, the Bobcats will look to close out the 2019 portion of their schedule on a high note. In addition to their two games this week, Lees-McRae will also make road trips to Belmont Abbey and Southern Wesleyan this month.
About the Opponents – King comes into Wednesday's game with the Bobcats sporting a record of 2-3 on the 2019-20 campaign. The Tornado own victories over Mars Hill (90-62) and Lincoln Memorial (67-60) this season with setbacks against Tusculum (82-62) and Carson-Newman twice (111-82, 82-72).
Converse, meanwhile, enters this week's action with a record of 1-8 on the season. The Valkyries won their season-opener at Queens back on November 8 by a score of 84-77. Individually, a player to watch for Converse is Ashley Sides who netted a team-high 13 points last time out against Chadron State.
Series Histories vs. Opponents – The Tornado holds the edge in the all-time series against Lees-McRae as they have won 16 of the 29 meetings. In the matchups last season, each team won on their home floor with the Tornado coming out on top in Bristol, 92-57, and the Bobcats winning in Banner Elk, 73-67.
Historically, Lees-McRae has gotten the better of the Valkyries more times than not over the years. Since 2002, the Bobcats are 23-7 against Converse. However, the Valkyries and Bobcats split the two games last season with each team winning on the other's home floor.
