TIGERVILLE, S.C. --- A trio of freshmen combined for 11 goals and Callie Gregg notched her third hat trick of the season while the Lees-McRae women's lacrosse team dispatched North Greenville, 18-4, in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium in Tigerville, S.C.
With the win, the Bobcats (5-3, 3-0 CC) earned a postseason berth for the first time since 2009 and has matched last year's win total. The Crusaders (2-8, 0-7) remain winless in conference play while Nikki Colwell tallied two goals.
Colwell put NGU up 1-0 with a goal in the first minute.
LMC responded with a 10-0 run before taking a 12-2 lead into half.
Freshman Casey Reagan (Midlothian, Va.) was nearly unstoppable when she ripped off four consecutive goals in a 12-minute span.
Freshman teammate Peyton LeCompte (Carolina Beach, N.C.) chipped in with a pair of first-half goals while duel athlete Ariana Smith (Jackson, N.J.) scored her first goal of the season with 2:57 remaining in the first half.
Tiffany Laster (Jupiter, Fla.) added a goal and an assist in the first half while LMC outshot NGU, 18-11.
Four Bobcats are in the top-25 in the conference in goals scored. LeCompte is tied for fourth with 31 and Laster is tied for 15th with 21.
LMC's defense played strong once again by allowing only four shots in the second half.
The Bobcats have held four of their last five opponents to single digit goals.
Junior Taylor Drake (Jupiter, Fla.) and Reagan sit tied for 22nd with 18.
Coach Ray Cameron's squad played a poised and selfless second half by earning assists on five of the six goals.
Reagan provided three of them while Jenah Tracy (Naples, Fla.) and Gregg (Roanoke, Va.) combined for four goals and an assist.
Tracy sits second in Conference Carolinas with 23 assists on the year.
LMC dominated in draw controls (17-6) while scoring 15 or more goals for the sixth time this season.
The Bobcats wrap up their season-opening nine-game road swing with a trip to Franklin Springs, Ga. to battle Emmanuel (Ga.) Monday, March 30 at 6 p.m.
