BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Freshman Constance Madden recorded five points, including three goals, but the Lees-McRae women's lacrosse team fell short against a tough Wingate team, 13-8, Wednesday afternoon at Tate Field in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Bulldogs (4-3) jumped over the .500 clip after Brittany Andrews netted seven goals and Paulena Dempsey added five. The Bobcats (2-5) scooped 21 groundballs in the second half.
Senior Mia Emmerson (Orlando, Fla.) amassed 10 saves and five groundballs.
WU jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after Andrews scored twice in the first 3:45.
Sophomore Peyton LeCompte (Carolina Beach, N.C.) scored her 20th goal of the season while Madden (Stuart, Fla.) earned the assist at the 25:12 mark.
The Bulldogs added another three goals before LMC responded with a trio of scores itself.

Senior Jenah Tracy (Naples, Fla.) found the back of the net at the 12:06 mark before dishing out an assist to LeCompte.
Taylor Drake (Jupiter, Fla.) bested WU's Arion Pierre with 8:22 remaining in the half.
The Bobcats cut the deficit to two, 7-5, with a goal from Callie Gregg (Roanoke, Va.)
Madden notched all three of her goals in the second half, including back-to-back tallies, 9-7.
WU's Andrews helped extend the lead with three goals of her own.
LeCompted scooped five ground balls while Sara Henderson (Huntersville, N.C.) had four.
Five different Bobcats recorded three groundballs apiece.
LMC will enjoy an eight-day break before welcoming Converse for a Conference Carolinas tilt Thursday, March 24 at 4 p.m.
