Women's Lax Falls Short at UVa.-Wise

WISE, Va. --- A quartet of players scooped four groundballs apiece and sophomore Peyton LeCompte netted a hat trick while the Lees-McRae women's lacrosse team fell short, 10-5, to UVa.-Wise Tuesday evening at Carl Smith Stadium in Wise, Va.

The Cavaliers (5-2) used five assists from Catherine Dina while a trio of players scored two goals each. The Bobcats (3-6) saw sophomore Tiffany Laster (Jupiter, Fla.) net a pair of goals and dish out an assist.

Senior goalie Mia Emmerson (Orlando, Fla.) made nine saves and amassed four groundballs.

UVa.-Wise had three different players score in the opening 10:08 while Dina delivered two assists.

Laster got the Bobcats on the board with a slick goal with 12:07 remaining in the first half.

After a pair of Cavalier goals, LeCompte (Carolina Beach, N.C.) bested Melanie Reilly with top-shelf goal with 33 ticks left in the first.

Laster cut the deficit to two, 5-3, with a goal in the early minutes of the second half.

The Cavaliers responded with three goals in a span of 1:48.

LeCompte scored the last two goals for the Bobcats while Sydney Steinberg powered the Cavaliers offense in the final 15 minutes of the contest.

Junior Joelle-Sara Prata (New Bedford, Mass.) caused a pair of turnovers while snagging four groundballs.

Coach Lexi King's squad opens a busy April with a trip to Erskine Saturday, April 2 at 2 p.m. for a Conference Carolinas game in Due West, S.C.
