DUE WEST, S.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's lacrosse team battled back from a seven-goal deficit at one point to get within one of Erskine College Wednesday afternoon in Conference Carolinas action, but that's where the comeback stalled as the Flying Fleet held on for the 19-17 victory. The loss moves LMC's record to 1-8 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
The Bobcats had a balanced scoring effort Wednesday as they scored their season-high 17 goals. Peyton LeCompte accounted for seven of these 17 goals bringing her total to 24 in 2018. Beth Haynes found the back of the net on five occasions to set a new career-high for her in that category. Tiffany Laster scored three goals and added an assist, while Constance Madden rounded out the goal scorers with two goals on three shots.
Samantha Thomson got the start in net for the Bobcats Wednesday and took the loss dropping her record to 0-2. Thomson made 11 saves in 30 tries in the contest.
As the final score would indicate, both teams were neck-and-neck in terms of statistics. Erskine held the edge in shots, ground balls and free position shots, but the Bobcats held the edge in successful clears and draw controls.
LMC will return to action this Saturday when it hosts Chowan in a Conference Carolinas clash. Saturday's game, which will be the team's senior day, is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start time.
