The Lees-McRae College Athletic Department and the Lady Bobcat soccer program are proud to announce that redshirt junior goalkeeper Anita Hekman (Toronto, Ontario) has been named to National Soccer Coaches Association of America All Regional Third Team.
The NSCAA honor is Hekman's second post season award after she was named First Team All Conference at the conclusion of the 2005 season. Hekman, a captain with the Lady Bobcats soccer program, is a two sport athlete Lees-McRae; she is also a defender on the Lady Bobcats lacrosse team during the spring. During the 2005 season, Hekman started each game between the pipes for the Lady Bobcats. She led the Carolinas Virginia Athletic Conference in save percentage compiling a .894 average. Hekman was also second in the CVAC in total saves with 126 and second in saves per game, averaging 8.4. She also finished the year with a 0.94 goals against average in 15 total games, good enough for third in the conference, while adding two shutouts.
The Lady Bobcats ended the season at 3-11-2 and failed to make the CVAC tournament. Seven of the eleven losses through the 2005 season were by one goal. With the graduation of only two seniors, the core of the Lady Bobcats will be returning in 2006 where the Lady Bobcats will look to be on the winning side of those one goal games.
