Banner Elk, NC-- The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats soccer team hosted Louisburg College Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 5-0 win. The win improves the Lady Bobcats to 2-1 this season.
The Lady Bobcats came out flying, looking to make up for the 4-0 loss to Lenoir Rhyne earlier in the week, getting on the board early and often. Aerial Gregston got things started for the home side with a floater from 25 yards that went over the out stretched arms of Louisburg keeper Jennifer Flood just three minutes in. Tiffany Coleman and Christine Calvert drew the assists. Four minutes later, Miranda Franks received a beautiful cross from Calvert and made no mistake for the early 2-0 lead. In transition, Coleman would find Ashley Splawn open on the right wing. From 35 yards out, like Gregston, Splawn used a floater to put the Lady Bobcats up 3-0 in the tenth minute. Maribeth Novak's bullet beat Flood, but rang off the goalpost; however Charity Austin found the rebound at her feet and scored for the 4-0 lead. Like the first and third Lady Bobcats goal, Flood was not able to get up high enough to knock away the floater that Heather Klaus launched from the top left corner of the 18 yard box, ending the game's scoring and allowing the home side to cruise to the 5-0 win.
Anita Hekman, Cameron Joyce and Molly Grantham all saw time in the Lady Bobcats net with Hekman making her third straight start this season and earning the win. Hekman and Joyce each registered one save.
The Lady Bobcats will begin the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic
