Lady Bobcats Top Trinity

The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats soccer team got into the win column Tuesday afternoon with a 7-0 win over Trinity Washington University. The Lady Bobcats improve their record to 1-3 on the year.

Freshman Brittany Elliot (Peoria, AZ) got the Lady Bobcats on the board with the first of two goals on the afternoon. Sophomores Ashley Splawn (Knoxville, TN) and Lauren McLelland (Salisbury, NC) extended the Lady Bobcats lead to 3-0 before Elliot buried her second of the game, giving the Lady Bobcats a 4-0 edge heading into halftime.

The Lady Bobcats would continue their offensive firepower in the second as freshman Martha Peacock (Mooresville, NC), junior captain Christine Calvert (Dallas, TX) and freshman Caitlin Smith (Spartanburg, NC) found the back of the net.

The seven goal output ties a single game high for the Lady Bobcats under third year Head Coach Renee Lopez. The last seven goal outing came during last year's Conference Carolinas opener, a 7-3 win over Converse College.

"Our overall possession of the ball, intensity and work ethic was great today," commented Lopez. "If we can continue to play the way we did today for 90 minutes on a consistent basis, we will be putting ourselves in an excellent position to compete within our conference."

Elliot (pictured top left), McLelland, Peacock and Smith all registered their first collegiate goals in the contest.

The Lady Bobcats will open up their Conference Carolinas schedule Saturday evening when Erskine College visits Tate Field. Kickoff is set for 5:00pm and is the first of a doubleheader with the men.
