SPARTANBURG, SC--The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats earned their second straight Conference Carolinas win Wednesday evening, snapping a two game losing skid with a 2-1 win over Converse College. The win improves the Lady Bobcats to 5-10, (3-4 Conference Carolinas), while Converse remains winless in conference play at 0-8, 1-13 overall.
After a scoreless first half, sophomore Aerial Gregston (Atwater, CA) put the Lady Bobcats on the board first with her third goal of the season in the 65th minute. Freshman Marissa Middleton (Olathe, KS) found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal in the 76th minute. Converse would strike back immediately, cutting the deficit to one just two minutes later, however the Lady Bobcats managed to hold on, ensuring Middleton's first goal would also stand up as a game winner.
"We were caught off guard quite a bit in the first half, but I'm proud to say these ladies turned up their intensity and took their game to another level in the second half," commented Head Coach Renee Lopez. "Inconsistency is part of having such a young team, but I am happy to see that we could bounce back and get another Conference win."
The Lady Bobcats will continue their Conference Carolinas schedule Saturday when they square off with Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, NC. Kickoff is set for 2:00pm.
