Lady Bobcats Earn Academic Award

KANSAS CITY, MO--The National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced the NSCAA Academic Team Awards for collegiate men's and women's soccer teams during the 2006-07 academic year. Under third year Head Coach Renee Lopez, the Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats were honored for their work in the classroom last year.

A total of 406 teams, (111 men, 295 women), were awarded the Academic Team Award after earning a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Of that total, 71 schools had both their men's and women's programs recognized. The Lady Bobcats earned the award based on the 3.25 cumulative GPA held by the 24 members of last season's team.

"I am pleased to have the honor that our ladies are going the distance both on and off the field," commented Lopez. "This award is a true testament to them keeping their focus as being students first and foremost. I am extremely proud to be associated with this group of young ladies."

After losing just three players to graduation, the youthful Lady Bobcats will look to improve upon their 5-15 record next season, as 19 freshmen and sophomores gained valuable experience this past season.
