Sullivan nets conference player of the week honors

HIGH POINT, N.C. --- Freshman MaryBeth Sullivan (Greensboro, N.C.) has been named the Conference Carolinas Player of the Week after leading the Lees-McRae College women's soccer team to a pair of impressive wins over Erskine and Coker last week, announced league officials Tuesday.

Sullivan tallied four goals and two assists on the week, including a hat trick against Coker on Saturday to guarantee the Lady Bobcats' first top-four finish in the conference since 2003. The rookie midfielder opened the week with her ninth goal of the season against Erskine, pacing the Lady Bobcats to a 4-1 win over the Flying Fleet. Sullivan followed that performance with her best showing of the season on Saturday, scoring her first career hat trick and adding a pair of assists to lead LMC to an 8-1 win over Coker.

The Greensboro, N.C. has now scored in each of her last four matches, totaling six goals and 16 points in that span to swell her team-leading season marks to 13 and 35, respectively. Sullivan has also dished out nine assists this season, placing her second on the team and third in the conference in that category; her goals and point totals also put her second in the league in each category.

Lees-McRae, the No. 4 seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament, returns to the pitch on Thursday when the Lady Bobcats travel to Belmont, N.C. to take on top-seeded Belmont Abbey College in the semifinal round. The match is slated to kick off at 2 p.m.
