KANSAS CITY, Kan. --- The Lees-McRae College women's soccer team has received the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for the 2009-10 academic year, announced NSCAA officials earlier this week. Lees-McRae posted a combined grade point average of 3.15 last year to garner the award for the third consecutive season.
Lees-McRae and Mount Olive College each garnered the award in representation of Conference Carolinas, as the Bobcats and Trojans posted GPAs of 3.15 and 3.12, respectively, last season. The Bobcats posted one of the best campaigns in program history this fall, finishing the regular season among the top four teams in the conference for the first time since 2003. Lees-McRae also posted the program's highest win total since 2002, finishing the campaign with a 14-6 record in head coach Cally Morrill's first season at the helm.
The Bobcats are expected to return 18 letter-winners next season, including Daktronics all-Southeast Region selection MaryBeth Sullivan (Greensboro, N.C.), 2009 Daktronics All-American Vickie Rich (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and ESPN Academic All-District midfielder, Brooke Santerre (Port Republic, Md.).
