Dorn earns program's first Conference Carolinas Scholar Athlete honors
HIGH POINT, N.C. --- Lees-McRae College senior Mary Dorn (Shallotte, N.C.) has been named the Conference Carolinas Women's Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year for the first time program history, announced league officials Monday.
Dorn led the Bobcats to their second consecutive Conference Carolinas regular season title this fall, earning the league's inaugural Defensive Player of the Year honors while directing the Lees-McRae backline to four clean sheets in league play. A native of Shallotte, N.C., Dorn recorded two goals and two assists this fall, while earning a spot on the all-conference first team for the third straight season.
The senior defender has helped Lees-McRae record 27 shutouts in her career, including 12 clean sheets in 2010 to lead the Bobcats to the program's first-ever Conference Carolinas Tournament title and the school's first berth in the NCAA Tournament. Dorn currently sports a cumulative grade point average of 3.70, and is expected to graduate with a bachelor's degree in accounting.
Lees-McRae is expected to return to 18 letter-winners from this year's Conference Carolinas regular season championship squad, including rising seniors Kaitlyn Kerrigan (Lakewood Ranch, Fla.), Alicia Pierson (Brooksville, Fla.), LeeAnn Sullivan (Greensboro, N.C.), and MaryBeth Sullivan (Greensboro, N.C.).
